Description

Wood stakes (Pressure-treated unless Redwood or Cedar) Stake dimensions need to be 30” long by 15/16” x 1 1/2” (or agreed upon equivalent).



Quantity: 60,000 stakes each, packed into bundles (BD) of 25 or 50 each and shipped palletized.



Wood Specifications for Stakes:




  • Stakes must be rigid and free of defect to enable being driven into hard ground and to resist breakage.

  • Acceptable wood species are Douglas-fir, western larch, white fir, hemlock, grand fir, spruce, and lodgepole pine, cedar, redwood.

  • May use cedar or redwood without treatment.




  • Wane shall not exceed 1/2” on the face and edge.




  • Knots shall not exceed 1/2” on the face and edge.

  • shall be free of loose knots.

  • Slope of the grain shall not exceed 1 in 6.

  • Shall not contain splits, pitch pockets larger than 1”, or weeping pitch pockets.

  • shall be of natural color (no discolored materials such as blue stain, water soaked or age

  • shall be free of core/heartwood of the tree.



Finished Specifications:




  • shall not exceed 35% moisture content when tested with a wood moisture meter (will likely need to be kiln dried after pressure treatment) if treated.

  • Non- redwood or cedar stakes shall be treated with ACQ (alkaline copper Quat) or CAB (copper azole B) to .40 absorption.

  • Please specify if stakes will or will not be treated.



Dimension Tolerance:



Stakes will have a 1/8” (plus or minus) tolerance for thickness and width, and a 1” (plus or minus) length tolerance.



End-Treatment:



Stakes shall have a pointed tip at one end of the stake, with two sides of the stake cut accordingly to form a two-sided point a minimum of 3” to a maximum of 4 along the stake centerline.



Packaging:



Stakes shall be packed into individual bundles of 25 or 50 that are securely bound on both ends with metal banding and placed on intact sturdy pallets (50-60 bundles per pallet) with a minimum of 3” clearance to allow easy offloading using a fork-lift. Bundles shall be secured onto the pallets with metal banding. Spacers are needed to facilitate treatment and to keep stakes in the center of pallet from rotting.



Delivery:



A 72–hour notification shall be given to the individual listed below prior to delivery so that arrangements can be made for the Government to provide unloading equipment. Items shall be delivered as close to 03/19/2024by noon as possible (to allow for same day inspection) to Deschutes N.F., Region 6 Bend Pine Admin Site (BPAS), 63095 Deschutes Market Rd., Bend OR 97701. Inspection:



The contractor, not the government, shall be responsible for management and quality control actions to meet the terms of the contract. Self-inspection procedures need to be in place to ensure the requirements of the contract are provided as specified and available for review upon request.



The government will verify the contractor’s results by inspecting the product by:




  1. Counting the bundles and counting the Stakes in a bundle; proper banding around individual bundles (metal) and pallet banding (metal).

  2. Random sampling of a minimum of 1% of stakes for concurrence with contract specifications.

  3. Random sampling for wood moisture with a wood moisture meter.

  4. More than 5% defective stakes and/or packaging will be cause for rejection. A defect is:

    1. A stake from a randomly sampled bundle that fails to meet one or more contract specifications. The percentage of defective stakes will be applied to the total quantity ordered.

    2. One or more contract specifications for packaging is not met. The percentage of defective packaging will be applied to the total quantity ordered.
